Jockey Corey Nakatani’s son Matthew got the call Saturday and came through with flying colors – but this wasn’t on the race track.
Matthew Nakatani is a kicker for the University of Louisville football team. Before joining the Cardinals, the redshirt sophomore had a stellar career at Shelby County (Kentucky) High School, connecting on 14 straight field goals. He also succeeded in the classroom, graduating in the top 10 percent of his class.
In Louisville’s 35-7 win over Missouri State, Nakatani booted a 19-yard field goal that put U of L ahead 3-0 and followed up late in the game with a 45-yard kick. He also kicked three extra points.
Nakatani is a sport administration major.
